MoscowLarge venues and a hard operating envelope — check policy before dates

Genuine congress and exhibition scale, but the first questions are sanctions exposure, banking and your own travel policy, not the venue.

The honest version

Moscow has the physical infrastructure for very large events. Crocus Expo and Expocentre run to hundreds of thousands of square metres, Zaryadye is a first-rate concert hall, and the domestic supplier base is experienced. For companies with a continuing Russian entity, or for programmes drawing on CIS, Central Asian and some Gulf and Asian audiences, it remains a working destination.

Everything else about it is a compliance question before it is an events question. Cards issued outside Russia do not work. Payment routing, insurance, medical cover and sanctions screening all need answering by your legal and finance teams, not by us. Many multinationals prohibit travel outright. We will tell you honestly whether your programme can be run here, and if the answer is no, we will say so before you have spent anything.

Best suited to

  • Programmes for a continuing Russian or CIS entity
  • Domestic-market conferences and dealer conventions
  • Regional events drawing on Central Asia and the Caucasus
  • Exhibitions targeting the Russian market

Operating notes

What actually decides whether Moscow works for you.

Airlift, hotel capacity, ground and season — in that order, and before anyone falls in love with a photograph.

01

Access and airlift

Sheremetyevo (SVO), Domodedovo (DME) and Vnukovo (VKO). European, UK and US carriers do not serve Moscow; routings run via Istanbul, Dubai, Doha, Yerevan, Belgrade or Astana, which adds a connection and a night to most itineraries.

02

Hotels and capacity

Large inventory at reasonable local rates. International chains have largely rebranded, so the operator behind a familiar building may not be the one your procurement team has an agreement with.

03

Ground and distance

The metro is fast and vast. Traffic above ground is heavy, so movement plans should assume rail for delegates and separate routing for freight.

04

Season and calendar

May to September, and December for indoor programmes with a winter theme. January and February are cold enough to shape every outdoor decision.
